Code of Conduct

Our Commitment

The Fellows in Caribbean Academic Leadership (FCAL) is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants. This Code of Conduct applies to all FCAL conferences, workshops, field activities, networking events, virtual events, and any associated social activities.

Expected Standards of Conduct

Expected conduct

All participants are expected to:

Treat all attendees, speakers, volunteers, organizers, sponsors, and venue staff with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
Foster an inclusive environment that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
Engage in constructive discussions and respectful exchange of ideas, even when opinions differ.
Follow instructions provided by event organizers and venue staff.
Respect intellectual property and appropriately acknowledge the work and contributions of others.
Comply with all applicable laws, venue policies, and health and safety requirements.

Unacceptable conduct

The following behaviors will not be tolerated:

Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, bullying, or abusive behavior in any form.
Offensive comments related to race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation, or other personal characteristics.
Disruptive behavior that interferes with presentations, workshops, networking activities, or the overall event experience.
Unauthorized recording, photography, or distribution of presentation materials when permission has not been granted.
Any behavior that compromises the safety, wellbeing, or participation of others.

Reporting and Enforcement

Reporting concerns

Participants who experience or witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct are encouraged to report the incident to an FCAL organizer or volunteer as soon as possible. Reports will be treated respectfully and handled as confidentially as circumstances allow.

Consequences

FCAL reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to violations of this Code of Conduct. Depending on the severity of the incident, this may include a verbal warning, removal from an event without refund, restriction from future FCAL events, or notification of the participant's affiliated institution or organization when appropriate.

Acceptance

By registering for or participating in an FCAL event, participants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Together, we can foster a professional, collaborative, and supportive environment that advances conservation leadership throughout the Caribbean and beyond.
